What I Wore November 8th

On November 8th me and Lee went to my mum's for tea, and to see my mum and stepdad's photos from their trip to China. It looks like they had a fantastic time - I'm jealous that they saw the Terracotta Warriors, for one!

Anyway, I wore this new dress from George at Asda. I was looking for a new black cardigan and Bettie told me to look at Asda. While I was on the website I bought three cardigans, some leggings, and this dress, all for the bargain price of £60! That'll do nicely.

This dress was just £14 and is from Asda's plus size range. I love the pattern - it looks like china! My mum liked it too, and when I wore it for work a couple of days later I got compliments there, too!

Meeting up with Mookie!

I'm lucky enough to have made a lot of friends from blogging and the plus size community, including Anne-Lise, aka Mookie. I met her in person for the first time at Style XL last year, and Lee and I had a lovely time with her and her husband Mike. It turns out that our families live in the same place in Surrey, so when I was down there in October half term we made plans to meet up.

We went to a nice pub and chatted about mutual friends and what's hot right now in fat clothing! It was lovely, she's such a lovely person.

I'm wearing a black camisole from Evans, this gorgeous yellow Scarlett & Jo skirt, and strappy shoes from New Look!

Trip to Portsmouth

During October half term my friend Sam and I went to Surrey to stay with my cousin while my aunt and uncle were in Budapest. He doesn't really need babysitting, he's 17, but we were happy to go and keep an eye on him and the cats. We had a really chilled week with lots of delicious food. On the Friday we went down the A3 to Portsmouth.

My godmother lived in Portsmouth until a few years ago, so I'm familiar with it. She and her partner actually lived in Southsea so we headed there first to play in the amusement arcades.

Sam and Peter were much better than me at 2p machines :(

I beat Sam at air hockey though.

This is where the hovercraft arrives to.

Selfie - and yes I had an infection in my right eye which was why it was almost closed! You'll be glad to know I went to get it looked at, was sent to the eye clinic at my local hospital, and came away with steroid drops to mend it!

Peter is taller than me, I can't believe he's 17 (aren't I 17?)

I put this picture on Instagram with the caption "two of my favourite people in the world" and it's so true, they both are.

After a lunch of chips and pop in the car, we decided to go up Spinnaker Tower, I'd never been but Peter had.

The hand samp is shaped like the tower!

Various views from 100m up

There's also a glass floor at 100m, you can walk on it but that freaked me out too much!

Sam did though

And Peter

And Sam even lay down on it for me!

This is the rest of Gunwharf Quays. That building in the middle at the top is nicknamed The Lipstick!

After the tower we went back to Southsea for ice cream.

I love beach huts, they're so beautiful. I have fond memories of hiring one on Scarborough beach on the Sunday School trip!

And another selfie - my eye looks terrible, doesn't it?

Films of the Months - October 2015

Here's what I watched in October - better than last month but not by much!

My BFFs came to stay with me the 2nd weekend in October and we watched three films, each more terrible/amazing than the last!

Firstly was Bring It On, which is a tradition between us, even though it's about 3 years since we last watched it.

Next was Whip It, which I love because Ellen Page

And Drew Barrymore!

Then we watched Just My Luck

With hilarious cameos from McFly, playing the same song over and over!

A week later while away with my mum and stepdad, we watched Escape From New York, it didn't do much for me but I'm putrting it on my list!

Then on Halloween I was with Sam and she found The Addams Family on the TV, which is an absolute classic!

What did you watch in October?

Books of the Month - October 2015

Here's what I read in October! You can find some more in-depth reviews here, as usual.

This is a very sweet middle grade book about a half Indian, half Jewish girl who has to go to a new school. I really liked the fact that her dad suffered very badly from depression

I really liked this. It's a YA book about a girl who wakes up to find her life is entirely different - her parents are still together, her hair is still long, and she has different friends. It's a bit like Life on Mars. I liked it a lot!

I'm a big fan of Elly Griffiths' Ruth Galloway novels, but her last two have been set in the 50s and centre around detective Edgar. They're also really good, this was better than the first one, in fact.

I asked on FB for books featuring a certain something, and this was recommended. I bought it on eBay for cheaps and enjoyed it. It's the first Poirot novel and is really good. I've never read Agatha Christie before!

This was okay, I liked the premise - about kids in a band falling in love - but I felt the worldview was really lacking in description.

This is a middle grade book about a trans girl; it's extremely sweet and I think it's an important addition to the LGBTQ world.

I read the third in this series a few weeks ago, and decided to get the next two from the library. If I was 10 years old I would be ALL OVER this series. It's adorable!

Weekend trip to Somerset

In the middle of October I went to Somerset with my mum. My stepdad was already there; he'd been there all week seeing his mum and stepdad and staying in their static caravan which is a few miles from their house. My mum and I went down on Thursday on the train.

I didn't take many photos as unfortunately I was quite ill, and after battling through Friday I stayed at the caravan on Saturday to recuperate. I did have a lovely time though. The caravan overlooks the sea at Blue Anchor so it's just lovely!

Here's the few photos I did take.

Selfie of me and my mum on the train!

Really delicious coffee ice cream that I had in Watchet.

The really cool ceiling in the pub in Blue Anchor

And again

Me and my mum at Porlock Weir

And here's the most money I've ever won on a 2p machine! Haha, I love them but never win!

What I Wore 9th October

I went to Meadowhall on 9th October because Em was supposed to be opening the Yours store there, which has had a makeover. Unfortunately, it wasn't ready, but I met up with Em and Becks anyway and we went to Giraffe, which I'd never been to before. It was delicious food (I had a mezze platter) and it was lovely to hang out with those two and just chat.

Here's what I wore. It was the first time I'd worn this yellow Scarlett & Jo skirt, even though I've worn the green one a couple of times. My top is from Evans, and my cardigan is from New Look. I love the colour of this skirt, and it's perfect for brightening up the day.

Weekend trip to Scarborough

Lee and I went on a last-minute trip to Scarborough a few weeks ago. We used to go away quite often, but lack of money and time recently has put a dampener on that. But we needed some space so we booked a B&B and set off quite early.

We parked on Marina Drive and had some lunch, then played in some of the amusement arcades for a couple of hours. Then we went to find our Bed and Breakfast, Jadella's. We got a really friendly welcome from the owners and met their cat and dog. Our room was huge, on the first floor with a squishy sofa in the bay window. The bathroom had a massive bath, which we both relaxed in (I never have a bath!), filled with lots of Badedas bubbles (my faaaavourite smell!).

We went out later for fish and chips, and then went back in the arcades and played pool. In the morning, we had a really nice breakfast in the B&B - Lee doesn't eat red meat so he got a vegetarian breakfast. I would definitely recommend Jadella's!

Here's what I wore - a dress from Yours that Lolly gave me last year. I wear it a lot - the 3/4 length sleeves are perfect for autumn weather, and I like how it looks on me.

Here's Lee's t-shirt - I do like him to sometimes wear t-shirts that aren't band ones, so I bought it for his birthday

We went in the Harbour Bar for ice cream

It was a little bit overcast but at least it wasn't raining!

This was the bedding in the B&B!

Lee takes the first shot. I have never beaten him at pool, I am SO rubbish

Here's Scarborough by night

Isn't it lovely?

What I Wore 28th September

You've already seen this top in peach here, but recently I've been wearing the mint green one more. They're really nice tops, smart enough for where I work. I got them from everything5pounds but they may not be on the site now.
