On the Wednesday of our week away my mum, Alison, Lee and I headed out to the market in their town. It happens very literally on their doorstep every Wednesday and Alison and my mum said it was very good, so we stepped outside round the basket maker and first of all made our way up the street. There were lots of lovely stalls so we got some bits. I got a present from a friend and Alison bought me a lovely mustard yellow purse as a belated birthday present. I had been wanting a new purse so this was ideal!
My mum and I shared a chocolate crepe which was freshly made from one of the vans, it was lovely. We got some bread and then my mum needed a sit down so we had coffee in one of the cafes. She hasn't been very well and she needs to relax a lot, so it wasn't really a problem to sit down for her. We headed back down the hill and Lee and my mum wanted to go in then, so they did. Alison and I went down the hill to the end of the market, but by this point it was getting towards closing time so we didn't get anything else. Oh my mum bought a top too right at the beginning, it was only twenty euros.
We had some lunch and some macarons which we had bought the previous day for pudding. I had a nap - I hadn't slept at all well and felt awful, so I laid down with fresh air blowing in on me which was lovely. Lee was helping my godparents with some IT issues, bless him - he doesn't mind and they were very grateful!
We headed out to eat in the evening. In a town nearby is a trattoria which we've been to before and which is really lovely. First of all we headed to Alison and Derek's friend Vanessa's bar; she hasn't had it open very long and it was nice to see her. We met her and her family at Alison and Derek's wedding in France way back in 2015. Alison was drinking something called Pineau des Charentes which is a fortified wine and is absolutely delicious so I had some too. I was wearing make up! Lee annoyed me so I gave him a big kiss on his cheek and then it turned out the lipstick wouldn't rub off properly... oops.
We made it to the trattoria and had two courses each. As a reminder, I do sometimes eat fish, and especially in somewhere like France where there aren't always vegetarian options that are suitable for me (I have other medical things going on that I need to be careful of). So I had salmon lasagne and it was absolutely gorgeous and I really enjoyed every bite of it. Then I had cafe liegois which was delicious. We shared some pink wine between the drinkers among us, and then we headed back to Alison's. It was a nice day, I walked a long way for me!
