The Libertines in Sheffield

By the time you read this it will be 2025! Wow! How weird! I'm desperate to get these blog posts written so I'm trying to just rattle through them before we get into Christmas stuff. December is always way busy, but the beginning of November was too, but fortunately I had the opportunity to rest a bit at the end of November and believe me I needed it! I feel like life has really been kicking me recently and although I've had some lovely times with some friends and so on, I've also been going through some rubbish and life has just been kicking me. So let's hope that December is kinder, and so is the new year.

Anyway, I went to see The Libertines again, only a couple of weeks after I had seen them in Leeds. There was a good reason for this - my friend Lucinda was supposed to come  down to see them with me, but she couldn't get the time off work. My mum said she would come, especially as I couldn't get a seat/access (I hate ableist venues!) but then my friend Rachael, who sees the band a lot, said that she and I should meet up first for food and then go into the gig late and she would stay with me the whole time. This was lovely of her, and perfect because it meant I could see her for a few hours and it was ages since we had caught up! So I sold the other ticket and I headed to Sheffield about 5pm on the Monday evening.

Rachael and I met near The Octagon where the gig was, and then walked down to the top of Glossop Road to get food. There's a Chinese restaurant there that I've been in before, so I suggested that. I had vegetable chow mein which was lovely and then we sat for ages just chatting. Then as we were taking up space we decided to have some pudding, so we both had ice cream. We finally went into the gig venue at about 8.30.

I've never been in the Octagon before but Rachael headed to the left and we ended up right against the barrier that separated the VIP area from the rest of the venue, which meant that we were kind of to the side of the stage. The support band was just finishing and we could see Peter watching them, which was cute. Then we had a good view of Peter for the Libs, and the view was basically fine and it sounded really good. I enjoyed the gig - slightly different setlist to Leeds and they played one of my favourite songs which I hadn't heard in a while. I was in a lot of pain by the end - and in fact, for the rest of the week - but they were worth it. And it was nice to see Rachael and experience a gig with her.

Afterwards we met up with our friends Sarah and Marta, just chatting for a bit. We also talked to Bridie, who is currently on tour with the Libs and is taking a ton of lovely photos of them, as well as playing onstage in one particular song. She is so talented so it was nice to see her! Rachael headed off to her hotel and I drove home; I would have stayed longer but I had work the next day!

Vegetable chow mein, it was a huge plate and nicely spiced

Ice cream and sprinkles, like we were five years old
