Trip to Crete - Day 4

On the fourth day of our holiday we went down to the beach! There was a minibus down to the beach but in the off season it only ran a few times a day. So we timed it well. We had a big breakfast and then wandered round the hotel, looking at the cats and then we sat on the terrace. Lee was playing on his Steam Deck and I was cross stitching. It was a Christmas themed cross stitch so it was a bit absurd to be doing it in twenty five degree heat in Crete!

We got the bus down to the beach at 1pm. It was a tiny little bay, with two shops, three cafes/bars, a restaurant, and a couple of hotels. Oh and a cash machine, which was helpful. We went into one of the shops and bought souvenirs including tzatziki herbs for me and my mum and some olives and olive oil for my stepdad. We went down on the beach which was rocky rather than sandy. There were sunbeds and parasols but we went into the shade. I wanted to go in the sea, so I made my way down. There was quite steep shelf on the beach so it was quite hard for me, but I managed it eventually. I swam lots and there was something that was maybe a broken jetty that came out really far, so I went over to that and walked around on the submerged rocks.

I struggled to get out as well, because of the bank and because it was rocky so it was hard to get a purchase on. Lee came and helped me, which was good. But I'm glad I swam! It was lovely. We sat in the sun for a bit so I could dry off a lot. Then we went into one of the bars for a drink and pudding. It was empty except for us and the waiter was lovely. I got a ridiculous cocktail and we were brought some nibbles, and then I had a crepe with nutella and banana, and Lee had chocolate cake and ice cream. It was lovely! So nice to just sit by the sea. The return minibus left at 4pm so we went back to the stop and waited for a bit.

I think we went back to the pool for a bit but the sun was moving away so it wasn't as warm. As usual we got showered and dressed and ready for tea. On this night I had more of the Greek bruschetta type stuff which was lovely, I could have eaten that all week to be honest. As usual, it was a chilled day but I'm glad we went down to the beach

The book I was reading, which I had high hopes for but ended up not really liking. I left it on the hotel book shelf for someone else to pick up

A better look at one of the baby kittens. I definitely wanted to steal this one and bring it home with me

View from the terrace where we sat most of the morning

And here's me cross stitching, haha

Down in the bay, it was literally so tiny but so cute

Close up of the rocky beach when I was lying down. We looked for sea glass but didn't find any

Proof I was in the water

Here we are in the bar which overlooked the water, which was nice

Lee and his pudding - I can't find a photo of mine which seems unlike me!

Schnapps as we were paying the bill

As we were waiting for the minibus, looking up towards our hotel. It was so steep!

As you can see the pools had no sun on them by this time

This rock in Heraklion Bay looks a bit like a lizard so there's a myth about how a giant lizard invaded Crete so Zeus turned it into a rock, because of course there's a myth about it

Carob rusks with tomatoes and whipped feta, so good

Moonlight on the water last thing at night

And here I am in this dress, which I love for being ridiculous
