Anniversary Trip to North Yorkshire - Day 4

On the Monday of our holiday we went to the seaside! We had been planning to do this so I had booked a beach hut on the promenade at Saltburn on Sea. Again, as my mum had been unwell and as my stepdad is disabled, it seemed like a great idea. We could have it from 10.30-5.30 and it was £40 for that time and it was WELL worth it. I would recommend if you struggle to walk a long way.

Lee's parents were still there when we got up, anyway, so we all had breakfast together and then they all left at about 10.30. I gave them all big bits of the white cake to take home. Then the four of us set off not long after and went to Saltburn in my mum's car. It was about forty minutes. We went to the beach huts and got into ours - I had booked a lovely teal coloured one called Mary. Inside it had bench seating, two deckchairs, a wind break, a kettle, cups, cutlery, and tea and coffee. We had taken our own, though, too. The weather was so windy so I don't think we would have stayed long if we hadn't had had the beach hut because it wasn't that comfortable outside in the wind. It was SO lovely to have the hut!

We were having a cuppa when my mum said "Chris Kamara has just gone past!" I said, "shut up!" and she and I went out to look. He was being filmed and photographed along the seafront. You see, there was a woman called Tracey who is walking the entire coast in memory of her wife, who died of cancer recently. Chris was walking a mile in Saltburn with her as he is a patron of Marie Curie. He was talking to some women in a hut like two doors down from ours, so we waited patiently and spoke to him and got photos. We're from Wakefield and Chris lives there now, so we were joking about that. I have only ever seen him on the TV but I like him, so it was a pleasure to meet him! We spoke to Tracey's sister in law, who is currently suffering from cancer, and she gave us both a card to donate and a little crocheted heart. It was so lovely!

We then all walked to the fish and chip shop just along the prom, and got lunch. We ate in the beach hut and it was delicious. Lee at some point got me and him orange hot chocolates which were lovely too. My mum and I paddled in the sea but it was absolutely FREEZING. I might have been persuaded to swim in the sea but it was SO cold so I didn't bother.

Lee and I walked along to the amusements and played in the machines for a bit (I beat him at air hockey) and then walked along the pier for a bit. But it was also so nice to sit and chill in the beach hut. I had taken my cross stitch and my mum and Norman enjoyed just watching the sea. It was SO the right thing for us to hire the hut - it was safe and warm and we needed it.

Saltburn is one of my favourite places on the east coast, it's just small enough to be doable for me, and it's so cute.

I was wearing one of my Springsteen shirts and a skirt, not an amazing outfit but I wasn't sure if I was going to go swimming or not. I did also have leggings on for most of the day as it was cold. We got back to the cottage at about 5.30 I would say, and just relaxed for the rest of the night. We watched some music TV and played a game.

Our very cute hut! We had also taken our camping chairs because we weren't sure what the seating would be like inside, but the benches were quite comfortable

Views from the prom when we had just arrived

Chris Kamara! He was an absolute gent

And with my mum!

On the beach itself when we went to go paddling

Proof I was actually in the water

My stepdad took this photo of us with his like paparazzi lens

Windswept back in the hut

View from the pier a bit later. As you can see the sun did keep coming out but it was cold when it went in, and the wind was blowing sand all over the place

And again!
