Films of the Month - August

I watched twenty four films in August! That's because I watched so few in July - and knew I wouldn't have a lot of chance to watch in September because I would be on holiday with no TV - that I made the effort to watch more. I think I watched a film on most days that I had enough free time to do so. I enjoyed a lot of what I saw but there were some awful ones in there too!

Here's what I saw:

This was on Netflix and I really liked it. Olivia Coleman was really good. I would recommend it!

I saw The Lion King at Showcase Cinema in Birstall when I was 9, on my friend's birthday, and I genuinely don't think I've seen it since! So I watched it. It is cute

I've seen The Sure Thing before but not for a while, so I watched it again. I love John Cusack but this character is such a douche haha

Lee and I watched Scream VI because we were making our way through the franchise again. It's really good, I do like it as one of the best ones

I have seen the remake of Annie before, but not for a really long time, so I watched it again. It doesn't quite stand up to the original but I do still find it really cute

This came up on Netflix and was recommended to me, so I took a chance on it. Despite a great cast it is absolutely dire and I wouldn't recommend it at all. Plus Lindsay's character was literally raped as a child and no one seems to bat an eyelid?? Nope. I've even warned a couple of friends against it

I think I've said before that I have a fascination with people who climb Everest, so this documentary, about a female sherpa, is right up my alley, and it was SO interesting. I really liked it, I would recommend it

This came up on Netflix too, and as I love both Robert de Niro and Anne Hathaway, I thought I would give it a chance. It's fun enough, I probably wouldn't watch it again but I am glad to have seen it once

When Tukru was staying at ours we watched Return of the Jedi together. I always forget how good it is

The next evening we watched Rogue One together. Lee loves it, he thinks it's one of the best Star Wars films

Lee and I watched Finding Dory together when we needed something easy to watch after Jasmine died

Lee and I also watched The Big Lebowski. I don't think I've ever seen it, but I like the Coen brothers, and I did like it a lot

The first Kingsman film was on Netflix so I watched it. I really like Colin Firth and Taron Egerton and I think it's a great film

I watched the second film in the new series of The Famous Five that has been shown on the BBC. I think they're really cute, quaint little films and I would recommend them for kids or if you were ever a fan of the books. This one was called Peril on the Night Train and it was a fab train film like Murder on the Orient Express. I really hope they'll make more of these!

I don't even know where I saw this advertised but I did, and it piqued my interest, so I watched it. It was fun enough but not great, again I would bother watching it again

Netflix kept pushing me to watch Penelope, so I did. I didn't really like it at all, I just didn't really get it

Sam and Jac and I watched Baby Driver together but virtually, messaging each other about our thoughts. I haven't seen it in ages. The soundtrack is banging

I never saw The Secret Garden when I was a kid even though I was the exact right age for it. I read the book, though. I saw some people talking about it and decided to give it a go. It's a really cute film, I liked it a lot

Lee and I completed the Cornetto trilogy watching this. I think I've only seen it a couple of times before, back when it first came out. It's fine, but it doesn't match up to Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz

I've been meaning to watch Mean Girls 2 forever, but have never seen it before. I actually liked it - it's not as good as the first one, but it's pretty good

Me and Sam and Jac watched Pleasantville together, virtually again. Sam had never seen it and it's one of my favourite films so we rectified that. I love it!

Lee and I watched the second Final Destination film because we are slowly making our way through the franchise. I liked it, it's fun

I've never seen How To Lose A Guy in Ten Days so when I saw it on one streaming service or another I thought I would give it a chance. I like Kate Hudson and I thought this was an okay film, but again I probably wouldn't bother to watch it again

Finally I watched Strangers on a Train. It was on the BBC alongside some other Hitchcock films, and I've heard of it, so I thought I would give it a try. I loved it, what a brilliant film
